Zayas to be honored in Puerto Rican Day parade

The Puerto Rican Day Parade Committee has selected junior middleweight Xander Zayas as the recipient of its "Sports Star" honor for the 2024 Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City. The 21 year-old Zayas has shown talent, dedication and unwavering commitment to representing Puerto Rico thus far in his career. Born and raised in San Juan, he aims to become a beacon of inspiration for youth at home and across the globe. With a pro record of 18-0 including 12 KOs. Zayas hopes to follow in the footsteps of Puerto Rican legends such as Wilfredo Gomez, Felix Trinidad and Miguel Cotto. He will face his toughest challenge to date on Saturday, June 8th on the eve of the parade, in an ESPN-televised main event against former WBO champion Patrick Teixeira at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

"Being named the 'Sports Star' of the 2024 Puerto Rican Parade in New York City is an incredible honor that will drive me to work even harder for my dreams and continue raising our flag and making it shine in and out of the ring. That is my sacred commitment to my people," Zayas said. "Representing Puerto Rico on such a grand stage fills me with pride and gratitude.”

"We are thrilled that Xander Zayas is being honored as this year's 'Sports Star' of the Puerto Rican Day Parade," said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum, Xander’s promoter. "His extraordinary talent, determination, and pride in his Puerto Rican heritage make him a shining example for all aspiring athletes. We proudly celebrate his achievements and look forward to watching him soar to even greater heights."
