Over the weekend, she defended her WBC atomweight (102-pound) world title by defeating fellow Mexican Perla Pérez (9-10-1) by unanimous decision in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. Throughout the scheduled ten rounds, Zamorano dictated the pace of the fight with her speed, movement, and precision. Although Pérez attempted to apply pressure and close the distance during several stretches of the bout, the champion landed the more effective and efficient punches, to maintain control of the action. At the conclusion of the fight, the judges scored the bout 97-93 and 98-92 (twice), all in favor of the champion.
