Zab Judah Returns in Mississippi

TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY @ 10:00 A.M., FEBRUARY 12th

Press Release: Tickets for the April 27, 2007 welterweight showdown between two-division champion Zab “Super” Judah (34-4, 25 KO’s) and Israel “Pito” Cardona (36-6, 28 KO’s) go on sale at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 12th. The ten-round bout will be held at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi.  The bout will mark the “Return of Zab Judah” coming back following a one-year suspension imposed on him following his highly visible clash with Floyd Mayweather in April of 2006 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV.  In July of 2006, Judah joined forces with locally based boxing promoter Prize Fight Boxing.

Prize Fight has a tradition of bringing marquis match-ups to the south. In 2002, Prize Fight brought the Mike Tyson vs. Lennox Lewis match to Memphis and followed that up in 2003 with the Mike Tyson vs. Clifford Etienne heavyweight showdown.  Likewise, in 2004, it promoted Roy Jones Jr. vs. Glen Johnson as well as Glen Johnson vs. Antonio Tarver in June of 2005 and in June of 2006, it promoted an outstanding middleweight match-up between Jermain Taylor and Winky Wright. Prize Fight Boxing’s Brian Young, an Olive Branch resident, is proud to announce that 2007 will not go without a mega fight being in the Mid-South. Young stated, “I have always been committed to delivering high caliber boxing matches to this area. I live in this area and want to continue to do what I love right here in the Memphis and Mid-South region. The Zab Judah fight will be an affordable, fan-friendly night of boxing that should be enjoyed by people of all ages.” Judah, who will be holding his training camp in Southaven at the brand new Prize Fight Boxing Gym, had a message to Mid-South boxing fans, “Don’t miss the show April 27th. I am hungry and ready to capture the world title again. I have been well received by the wonderful people of this area and look forward to putting on a dynamic show that fight fans will never forget.” Cardona 36-6 (28 KOs) has battled many of the toughest names in boxing over the years. Cardona holds huge victories over the likes of Ivan Robinson and Golden Johnson and suffered a loss on a hard fought decision to former world champion Paul Spadafora. "I'm very excited," Cardona said. "I know I'm taking a big chance. I'm fighting a former world champion; he's Zab Judah! I could have continued doing what I've been doing, waiting around for fights and hoping for a break, or jump right into a fight like this where a win will get me right back into the top 10. Hey, I only have a few years left and we decided to make the most out of this fight. I've got the right team behind me now and I have three months to get ready."

Tickets for the Judah vs. Cardona showdown are priced affordable. Only lower bowl and floor level tickets will be sold. Lower bowl seats start at $20 and range to $40. Floor seats are on sale for $60 and $100. Russ Young of Prize Fight had this to say about the ticket prices, “We wanted to make this an affordable show for everyone in the Mid-South. The DeSoto Civic Center is a wonderful place to watch boxing and the boxing fans of the region are going to be treated to a memorable night of boxing.”

The undercard for the show will feature some of the brightest young stars in the game today. Memphis teenager Ira Terry 13-0 (9 KOs) will be featured in an eight- round lightweight bout. Southaven’s own Jason Ross will be making his pro debut in front of his hometown crowd as he does battle in a four-round light heavyweight bout. The card will also feature a regional title fight involving Rayonta Whitfield 16-0 (8 KOs). Mid-South fight fans will remember Whitfield from his countless matches at WC Handy Park, FedExForum, and The Fitz Casino in Tunica.
