GL: Can you give us some thoughts on your [IBF junior welterweight]Â title winning effort over Kaiser Mabuza?
Zab Judah: "I feel like I've come full circle. I first won that belt in 2000 and I have to give honor to God and my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This win was a gift from the Lord. I've changed my life and given it to the Lord and you see what he's given me in return."
GL: And your thoughts on how the fight played out.Zab Judah: "The fight played out great. We prepared for the fight. Me, [trainer] Pernell Whitaker and my uncle Jimmy, we worked hard we had a great plan and put it to work during the fight. I was there to be smart and to use my legs. We knew he was strong, we knew he would come and he would fight tough, but we used his power to our advantage."
GL: How did you feel the fight was going at the time of the stoppage? Did you feel the fight was close or did you feel like you had the situation under control?ZJ: "The fight was going just as planned. Let em keep coming, just use that jab and keep turning him until he walks into something. My knockout ratio is high for a reason, but I kind of got away to the name of the game and that's boxing. Pernell told me boxing ain't about knocking guys out, it's about looking good and being a technician. Bringing that back with the power I have makes me a force to be reckoned with."
GL: What are you hoping the title leads to? Who do you want next?ZJ: "Like I said, I just want big fights. The money is going to come, so I'm not on the money path. I just want the big fights so when it's time for me to go into the Hall of Fame they say he fought the best and beat the best. I think I want to start with Juan Manuel Marquez. Everybody else is tied up right now and the biggest PPV fight out there for me is Marquez. He's a guy I respect and I would want to go in there and give the fans and good showdown with him."
GL: What's the soonest you'd like to make that happen?ZJ: "I don't know about how soon...
GL: (cutting in) When do you want to fight again?ZJ: "I don't know right now, I'm just relaxing and enjoying my family right now. Come summer time, I will be ready, but with Zab Judah everything changes from one day to the next, so tomorrow I might wake up ready."
GL: I don't know how done of a deal Alexander-Matthysse is, if Alexander became available would Marquez still be your preference?ZJ: "Of course. One guy is a hall of famer and the other isn't, that's real simple. It's a bigger fight."
GL: Are you disappointed the Mabuza fight didn't end up on HBO?ZJ: "Not really, I can't control that stuff."
GL: Let me ask you a different way, had your last fight on HBO ended in KO do you think they would have bought the Mabuza fight?ZJ: "I don't think so. I think they took me last time because they wanted to see me flat on my face.
GL: Closing thoughts?ZJ: "I want to thank all of my fans for believing in me. We're back!
