Yoenis Tellez training camp report

WBA interim junior middleweight champion, Yoenis “El Bandolero” Tellez (10-0, 7 KOs), has arrived in Orlando, Floirida after an exhausting training camp. He will be defending his secondary title against Abass Baraou (16-1, 9 KOs), this Saturday, August 23rd on the MVP Fight Night card at the Caribe Royale Resort. The twelve rounder will be televised live worldwide on DAZN. Tickets on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com. Here is what Tellez, who is co-promoted with Boxlab Promotions and Warriors Boxing, had to say about his recent training camp.

Téllez, originally from Santiago de Cuba and now fighting out of Stafford, Texas, knows he’s facing one of the toughest challenges of his career, but he welcomes the test with confidence. “Abass Baraou is a strong, technical fighter with a lot of heart, but I’ve never been afraid of tough opponents. Every fight I take is about proving I belong at the very top. On August 23, he’s going to find out that I’m not just defending a belt — I’m defending everything I’ve worked for since the day I left Cuba.”

Sharpened by an intense training camp, Téllez feels he’s more prepared than ever to deliver a statement performance. “This camp pushed me to the edge. Every day was about pushing to the limit and finding a new level in myself. I’ve sacrificed everything to be ready for this moment. My team has me sharper, stronger, and hungrier than I’ve ever been — and the results will show on fight night.”

For Téllez, the belt is more than hardware — it’s a symbol of the journey and the battles he’s endured. “Defending my WBA Interim title means the everything to me because it’s proof that dreams can’t be broken when you refuse to quit. It’s about showing that I’m not just holding this belt — I’m building toward being the true, undisputed world champion at 154.”

Téllez knows the DAZN spotlight is an opportunity to show the world he’s ready for the next level. “Fighting on MVP’s Fight Night card is the kind of stage every fighter wants. The lights, the cameras, the world watching on DAZN — it’s my chance to send a message. A win here doesn’t just move me forward, it puts the whole division on notice— Yoenis Téllez is here, and I’m coming for every champion at super welterweight.”

Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions, is confident that Téllez is on the path to becoming one of the sport’s brightest stars. “Yoenis Téllez has everything you want in a future world champion — skill, heart, and the will to fight anyone, anywhere. Watching his rise has been incredible, and I know he’s only getting better. I believe this fight will show the world that Téllez is destined to be a star in the super welterweight division.”
