Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado (pictured) will defend her WBC super bantamweight world title for the seventh time, facing Peru's "Triple L," Linda Laura Lecca, this Saturday April 27th at the Nuevo Toreo in Tijuana, Mexico. Mercado won the world super bantamweight crown in November 2019, defeating Fatuma Zarika in a rematch. She has defended her belt against Alejandra Guzmán, Isis Vargas, Mariana Juárez, as well as Kudakwashe Chiwandire. Laura Lecca was WBA super flyweight champion between 2014 and 2018. She has already faced and defeated Mexican fighters, among them Diana “Bonita” Fernández. The WBC organized a press conference via zoom and this is what the champion and the challenger commented:

“Women’s fights are a guarantee of an exciting spectacle. I think it will be a tough fight. She comes with the hunger to be crowned champion, but I am ready to defend my crown. I am happy for the opportunity to unify soon but I can’t talk about those plans until I defeat my rival.”

“We are very optimistic. I must win the fight round by round. I am well prepared. I know that we are going to leave our best in the ring to obtain the result and become the new WBC world champion.”
