In the third round, Peralta hurt the Brazilian with his left hand and Maldonado staggered but stayed on his feet. To end the fight, Peralta cornered his foe against the ropes and hit him with a powerful combination, sending him to the canvas just as the referee intervened to end the fight. Peralta is listed with a record of 14-1 but sixteen paid bouts in the World Series of Boxing make 23-8 a more accurate record. Maldonado, age 42, is now 28-6.
