Wongjongkam in shape for title defense

Arrives in Japan close to flyweight limit

Longtime WBC flyweight champion, Phongsaklek "The Thunder Puncher" Wonjongkam aka Phongsaklek Krathingdeng Gym arrived in Osaka, Japan this week for title defense against former OPBF titlist and current WBC #10 Noriyuki "Tough Boy" Komatsu.  Wonjongkam is Boxingtalk's #1 rated flyweight while Komatsu is #20.  The bout will be held this Saturday at Prefectural Gym. After arriving in Japan, Wongjongkam came to Eddie Townsend Gym to attend Komatsu's sparring session. Eijiro Murata, who is Komatsu's manager spoke with Japanese and Thai reporters and said thatthat in his opinion, the champion appeared overweight and Komatsu could knock him out and become the newWBC champion. After that, the Thai champ back to the fitness room of Swissotel Nankai Hotel and did some training of his own, weight training and puching the mitts with his trainer. Despite Murata's comment, Wongjongkam was only half a pound over the 112-pound limit and is sure to make weight easily.
