Womens Weekend Recap!

Both Ann Marie Saccurato and Maureen Shea won unamimous decisions at Iona College in New Rochelle last Friday night.  The college gymnasium, a compelling location for a boxing ring, enticed enthusiastic fans to come out to support the local Saccurato and Shea. Saccurato won a clear decision over tough fighter Victoria Ann Cisneros of Albuquerque, NM in what was called the "bout of the evening."  According to viewers, Cisneros came all this way ready to fight, not really interested in embracing the role of "opponent" after already losing a decision to Saccurato last year.  Cisneros came out strong and aggressive but tapered down in the later rounds after Saccurato's better skills and strong right hand started to wear her down.  The decision was unamimous:79-73, 78-74, 80-72, Saccurato.  Saccurato's record jumps to 13-1-0 and Cisneros drops to 3-3-2. In aother exciting bout, Maureen Shea knocked out Sarina Mae Hayden in the third round with a body shot.  Shea, accompanied to the ring by four Iona College cheerleeders, was immediately pummeled by the "anxious to get this started" Hayden, 0-3-1.  Hayden, also coming hungry to fight from Colorado Springs, CO, threw bombs at the surprised Shea, who eventually calmed her down with some bombs of her own.  The fight was ended in the third by ref Sparkle Lee with Hayden being beat across the ring by Shea and ending in a corner at 1:33. Hayden drops to 0-4-1 and Shea advances to 4-0-0(3 ko's).
