Witter claims vacant WBC title

Junior Witter W12 DeMarcus Corley... Junior Witter has claimed the vacant WBC junior welterweight title in London on Friday with a unanimous decision victory over DeMarcus Corley of the United States. The British Witter won by scores of 1161114, 117-111 and 118-112. Witter is 34-1-2 with the lone loss coming against Zab Judah. Corley, recycled several times over, drops to 31-5-1. The UK continues to gain control of the 140-pound division, as newly-minyed WBA titlist Souleymane M'baye is based there. Although he owns none of the sanctioning body's belts, Ricky Hatton of Manchester, is considered the genuine world champion of the division thanks to his defeat of Kostya Tszyu last year. source: associated press
