Winky Wright willing to make welter for date with Oscar: "After his fights with Bernard and Floyd, Oscar was still pretty, he didn't have to go to the hospital, not if he fought me though."

"People would rather watch Oscar and Floyd yell at each other over the phone because chances are it would be more violent than their first fight was."

GL: What's the latest and greatest with Winky Wright? "Not much G, but I had to get at you homie when I heard about your interview with Oscar (De La Hoya). My phone was ringing off the hook with people telling me he's on Boxingtalk brushing me off like a fight between me and him ain't one of the biggest fights out there and that's BS. I was spending the day out with my family, so when I got back and read the interview, I was like this dude's crazy."

GL: Why is he crazy Wink, he says he's fighting at welterweight and there's no way you can make 147 pounds?

Winky Wright: "Why there ain't no way? He's crazy because when I talk to him personally he acts like we're going to give the fans what they want and every time he has the chance to he finds someone else to fight. It was a lot of pressure on him to fight me, but he fought Hopkins and got a pass. Then he's gone for two years and fights Mayweather, so he gets another pass, but enough is enough. Give me my shot, you already done fought all the other top fighters, he always saying how he takes on all comers and the truth is ain't nobody out there that the fans want to see Oscar fight more than me."

GL: And what about Oscar being a welterweight?

WW: "Oscar knows I'll do whatever it takes to make the fight, if he's really going to fight at 147, I'll meet him at 150 or go all the way down to welterweight to make it happen. (laughs) If he wants to move down again, I'll go to 140."

GL: Obviously you're joking about fighting him at 140, but can you really make 147?

WW: "Homie, I'll make 147 to fight Oscar De La Hoya, no problem, no question. It would be my first and last fight at welterweight, but I still think I can kill myself to make the weight just to put a whooping on Oscar."

GL: Don't you think a rematch with Mayweather would be a bigger fight than De La Hoya-Wright?

WW: "Mayweather's going to beat Hatton, but don't nobody want to see that fight again. This is a business yeah, but Oscar has always been about making the biggest fight against the biggest names. And they have to be fights that the people want to see. Who wants to see Floyd outbox him again? Oscar wants to be in a fight, fighting is all I know how to do. People would rather watch Oscar and Floyd yell at each other over the phone because chances are it would be more violent than their first fight was."

GL: How does a fight between you and Oscar play out?

WW: "It's a classic fight with the biggest name in boxing taking on the biggest challenge he's yet to face. Other than Hopkins, I done whooped on everybody else that beat him and I haven't taken a step backwards in the ring since the nineties. Oscar would do what he always does and try his hardest, but it just wouldn't be enough. I look at Oscar as a great fighter with some BS losses and if you think about it, he's never really been beaten up. After his fights with Bernard and Floyd, Oscar was still pretty, he didn't have to go to the hospital, not if he fought me though. The kind of fight I plan on bringing, someone's going to get beaten up and it wouldn't be me."

GL: If not Oscar, when can we expect you back in the ring?

WW: "I ain't trying to hear about Oscar take no tune up and I ain't trying to take no tune up, I want De La Hoya, point blank. I ain't really thinking about no other fight right now because there's nobody else the fans keep asking me to fight. I'm ready to go from light heavyweight to welterweight and make one of the biggest fights ever and make up for what the judges saw in my last fight. I'm ready, next time you speak with Oscar you need to tell him I'm ready to fight him at 147 so what's the problem now?"
