GL: You've made it clear that you plan on moving back down in weight. Is there anyone out there that you've got your sights set on? "Oscar. Oscar and Oscar. That's who I want to fight the most. People been wanting to see Oscar in a really exciting fight and Oscar's been wanting to give the fans a really exciting fight. He's fought all of the best fighters of his era except for me, and I've fought all of the best from this era except for him so it only makes sense for the two of us to give the fans what they want."
GL: Do you really think a fight with De La Hoya is a realistic possibility?Winky Wright: "Why not? Like I said we've both done fought the best out there except for each other. The fans spend their money to see the best going at it against the best and I'm ready to give it to them. To me right now it don't get no bigger then and Oscar and me doing the damn thing."
GL: What about the Mayweather rematch or Miguel Cotto if he beats Shane Mosley? Wouldn't they be more realistic options for Oscar? WW: "Why would he want to fight Floyd again? So they can go out there and get everyone hyped up like it's going to be a really big fight so Floyd can kill it by not trying to make a fight out of it. Oscar wants somebody who's going to be there mixing it up with him and if he ever fights me I wouldn't take no steps back. When we was talking the other day you told me that he said something about fighting Mayweather again, but only if it was in a phone booth. The fans know I come to fight and Oscar would come to fight, he wouldn't come to hold, head-butt and hold and hit, he'd come to fight and that's what the fans want to see. Don't nobody want to see Oscar and Mayweather again just like fans don't want to see no holding and hitting and dirty fighting."
GL: Holding and hitting and dirty fighting. Are you trying take a shot at Bernard Hopkins, who coincidentally informed me to tell you that you're a great fighter you were just fighting Bernard Hopkins.WW: (laughs) "Bernard knows what he was in there with and everyone knows he'd never want to fight me again no matter how many people tell him he got a gift. The only people who saw him winning like that was the judges. But I ain't really trying to talk about Bernard Hopkins, I definitely ain't trying to hear about Floyd Mayweather Jr, all I'm trying to talk is De La Hoya. You know this business G, you tell me who's a tougher to challenge to De La Hoya than I am? I've beaten everyone who's beaten him except for Bernard. I moved up 10 pounds to fight Bernard and I know I still don't think I lost that fight. I ain't trying to sound like a broken record, but me and Oscar are two of the best fighters out there and we're both known for fighting the best, so why not fight each other?"
GL: What would be the lowest weight such a fight could take place?WW: "154. I'd have to kill myself to do it, but I'd do it for the De La Hoya fight."
GL: Why aren't you trying to talk Mayweather?WW: "Because it don't make no sense talking about somebody who ain't really trying to fight me. Why would I want to waste time talking about him? He's a great little fighter and I wish him the best, but he would never step up to the plate to fight me. I could have called him out on HBO after I beat Mosley and Trinidad and he still wouldn't have run to fight me like he signed to fight Ricky Hatton, but it is what it is little homie."
