Paul Williams captured the WBO welterweight championship with a hard fought unanimous decision victory over Antonio Margarito. Williams threw more than 500 punches than Margarito, and averaged over 100 punches per round throughout. Margarito, though far less active, put in some quality work and landed the harder shots and put up a valiant rally in rounds ten and eleven, but Williams won the twelfth round to seal the deal. Official scores were 116-112, 115-113, 115-113.
