Boxlab Promotions’ undefeated trio of Alex Bray (11-0, 8 KOs), Kaipo Gallegos (12-0-1, 9 KOs), and Carlos De Leon (8-0, 6 KOs) all successfully made weight Thursday and are ready to step into the ring tonight (August 28th) as part of the inaugural Project Series, live on DAZN from the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. At Thursday’s official weigh-in, Bray weighed 153.4 pounds, while fellow unbeaten Floridian Antraveous Ingram (13-0, 7 KOs) tipped the scales at 153 pounds. Gallegos came in at 135.4 pounds for his eight-round lightweight bout against Desmond Lyons (11-3, 2 KOs), who weighed 135.2 pounds. De Leon weighed 131.6 pounds, while opponent Maxwel Montes (13-5-1, 7 KOs) scaled in at 131.2 pounds ahead of their scheduled eight-round junior lightweight contest.
For Bray, tonight represents the biggest opportunity of his young professional career. The junior middleweight will be in the ring against another undefeated fighter in Ingram. Bray said the hard work of training camp is complete and he is eager to show what he can do when the bell rings. Bray said, “I feel great. I made weight, camp went exactly the way we wanted it to, and now I’m ready to go out there and perform. Fighting another undefeated guy brings out the best in me because I know he’s coming into this fight with the same confidence I have. Neither one of us knows what it feels like to lose as a professional, and I plan on keeping it that way. This is the type of fight I’ve been working toward. I want to put on a great performance, keep this title and show everyone watching on DAZN that I’m ready for the next level.”
Gallegos will enter his eight-round lightweight contest against Lyons looking to add another impressive performance to his undefeated record. With nine knockouts in 12 victories, Gallegos has already demonstrated his ability to finish fights, but tonight he wants to show that he is developing into a serious threat in the lightweight division. After weighing in at 135.4 pounds, Gallegos made it clear that he views tonight as an opportunity to begin establishing himself among the division’s rising names.
Discussing his mindset after successfully making weight, Gallegos said, “Making weight felt great, and now all my focus is on the fight. I’ve put in the work, I’m strong, I’m sharp and I’m ready to show everyone what I can do. I have a lot of respect for my opponent, but I’m coming into this fight to make noise in the lightweight division. I want to give the fans a performance they remember. Every fight is an opportunity to move closer to where I want to be, and I plan on taking another big step tonight.”
De Leon will look to remain perfect when he takes on the experienced Montes in an eight-round junior lightweight bout. De Leon has stopped six of his first eight professional opponents and believes fans can expect another action-packed showing when he enters the ring tonight. Looking ahead to his showdown with Montes, De Leon said, “The weight is made, I feel strong, and now it’s time to fight. I had a tremendous camp, and I’m ready to bring all that work into the ring. The fans can expect me to be explosive from the opening bell. I’m going to bring speed, power, pressure and a lot of energy. I know Montes has experience, so I’m prepared for whatever he brings, but my goal is to take control of the fight and put on the kind of performance that gets people excited about seeing me fight again.”
Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions, believes the inaugural Project Series provides an ideal platform for Bray, Gallegos and De Leon to demonstrate why the promotional company has such high expectations for each fighter. With all three facing opponents capable of testing them, Piedra expects the undefeated trio to embrace the pressure and deliver when the spotlight is on them.
