The judges scored the fight 98-91 (twice) and 96-90. Walsh (17-0) started quickly before Denny responded with a combination that forced Walsh to cover up and eventually take a knee, which the referee ruled a knockdown. In the second round, Walsh appeared to touch the canvas following another Denny attack, but the referee did not administer a count. Walsh then dropped Denny with a left hook later in the round. Both fighters had a point deducted in the eighth round, Walsh for holding and Denny for hitting behind the head. An accidental clash of heads also left Walsh with a cut above his left eye. Denny increased his work rate in the ninth, but neither fighter was able to produce a stoppage in the final round.
