Press Release: The World Boxing Council will stage its 46th annual convention, to be held in Chengdu, China , from November 2 to November 8, 2008.   It is an election year for the officers for the 2008-2012 term. Don King will promote a boxing show as part of the closing ceremony of the convention.




            “The 10 Continental Federations will attend, representing the 164 countries that are affiliated with the WBC, and the 2004-2008 administrative period will be ended.

            “Last year in Manila , the president of the Philippines , Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, personally opened the convention. In 2006 in Dubrovnik-Cavtat, the convention was opened by the president of Croatia , Stjepan “Stipe” Mesic. In past years WBC conventions have been opened by great statesmen such as Nelson Mandela, Maha Vajiralongkorn, the Prince of Thailand, Saul Menem and others.


            “The 46th WBC annual convention will be the official opening to professional boxing in a country which has a population of 1.3 billion, and a sensational boxing card will be held in Chengdu on November 7. The show will be the closing ceremony of the convention.”
