Virchis vs. Sprott next Tuesday!

PRESS RELEASE: On Tuesday, Dec. 13, two European top heavyweights will go to war at a peaceful location. At the idyllic holiday resort Soelden in the middle of the beautiful Austrian Alps hard hitting Spotlight heavyweight sensation Vladimir Virchis takes on Michael Sprott, a former British champion and owner of two European belts.

Virchis, 19-0 (17), massively jumped into the minds of European boxing fans on March 29 when he knocked out the talented Taras Bidenko in Hamburg in a dramatic 12th round of one of the best heavyeweight fights in Germany in recent history. The 32-year-old Virchis, a giant of 1,95m and 113 kg, followed up with two devastating first-round knockouts.

However, against former European champion Michael Sprott, 27-8 (14), the hard hitting man from Kiew will most certainly have a much more difficult job in front of him. The 30-year-old Englishman won the EBU and EU titles in April against previously undefeated Cengiz Cok, but lost it in his first title defense to Italian Paolo Vidoz. In 2003 and 2004 Sprott twice won the British championship belt and he was able to beat among others Danny Williams and Timo Hoffmann in a nine-year professional career.

The fight between Virchis and Sprott is scheduled over twelve rounds as intercontinental championship of the World Boxing Organization.

On the undercard a large number of Spotlight prospects will step into the ring at Freitzeit Arena of Soelden.

Eurosport will begin it’s broadcast live at 19:00 with heavyweight prospect Denis Boytsov, 10-0 (10). Boytsov who won all his fights within two rounds will target Hungarian Zoltan Petranyi this time with his power punches.

This Spotlight Boxing event is co-promoted again by Pro Boxing Austria.

Also in action: Heavyweight Egon Roth, 12-0 (11); super middleweight Lukas Wilaschek, 8-0 (4); super middleweight Denis Inkin, 25-0 (20); flyweight Susi Kentikian, 8-0 (7) and welterweight Joel Mayo, 34-6 (24).

Tickets are still available on the spot. To reach Soelden by car it takes one hour from Innsbruck, Austria, and three hours from Munich, Germany.
