Viloria wins world title at 108 pounds

Brian Viloria, who represented the United States at the 2000 Olympics, joined the roll call of world champions with a first-round knockout of Eric Ortiz in Los Angeles on Saturday.  Viloria, who has fought most of pro career as a flyweight, captured the WBC 108-pound title when he floored Ortiz just before the frst round ended. Ortiz did not beat the ten count. Viloria has finally lived up to the hype that tabbed him and Jeff Lacy as the two hardest punchers on the 2000 American Olympic team. The win improved Viloria's record to 18-0. Viloria, a true gentleman, dedicated the win to his last opponent, Ruben Contreras, who nearly died of injuries suffered in the ring against Viloria. Contreras was at ringside and was able to congratulate Viloria on his victory. source: Associated Press
