"Vernon Forrest is scared of me!"
GL: BoxingTalk.com here with the IBF Junior Middleweight champion Cory Spinks. Originally was supposed to be on this card, now not on this card. When can we expect to see you back in the ring? "Late February, at 154 pounds."
GL:Â You don't look like you're anywhere near 154 right now, what's up?
Corey Spinks:Â I'll be there when it's time to be.
GL: Are you dissapionted that you're not on the card? Why aren't you fighting on this card?
CS: I've never fought in Madison Square Garden, so I'm dissapointed not to be on this card. I can't worry about that, I'll get my chance.
GL: Obviously you want to get out there and fight the big names, but this mandatory with Verno Phillips is slowing that down. Does that frustrate you?
CS: Yes it's frustration, but you have to deal with what's at hand. Keep pushing forward. Hopefully after I take care of Verno, there will be something big lined up.
GL:Â What do you know about Verno as a fighter?
CS: He's been around for a while, he's got a shot. Shit, I don't really care about Verno. I'm talking about getting it over with.Â
GL:Â Have you or your manager been talking to King about unifying the titles with Alcine down the line.
CS:Â No.
GL:Â You don't think it's important to unify the titles at 154?
CS: We want big names, we want big names. We understand that he has the other title, you know what it's about. BoxingTalk knows what it's about. It's all about fighting those big names, he's not a big name. He's got a title, and he beat Travis Simms, c'mon. Beating Travis Simms don't make you big.
GL:Â Who at 154 do you want to fight then?
CS:Â Vernon Forrest.
GL: I spoke to Vernon, he said he doesn't want to fight you until you unify with Alcine. Then when he fights you, he can get all the belts.Â
CS: Yeah, he would say that, because he's scared. They try to makes excuses to stay out of the way. He's making excuses because he doesn't want to see me for real.Â
GL:Â If you take Alcine's belt, it won't make the fight smaller, plus it would put his back against the wall.
CS:Â He's going to make me do all the work?
GL: You've been doing the work your whole life, man. Why are you going to stop now?Â
CS:Â It get's tired, man.Â
GL: I spoke with Mayorga too, but Mayorga don't want to dance with Cory unless there's absolutely no one else. If he sees this he might want to dance with you, at 166. Give us some closing thoughts for the fans.
CS: Cory Spinks is just waiting to get back in there, last time people said it was a robbery when I fought Jermain. I'm just ready to get back in there and show them what I do best.
