BT: We're here with Brian Viloria, he's going to going for the WBC mini flyweight championship on April 14th. How's training going champ? "Training has been going great. Joe has been teaching me great stuff. From teaching me basics, to working on techniques that we need to bring to the fight and bring to the table when it comes to April 14th. Training has been excellent. I've been sparring almost every day. I've been working with different types of fighters, working on my movement, my defense. My defensive style has gotten a lot better. I've been tightening up a lot. It's been great working with Joe. I'm expecting to do well on the 14th."Â
BT: Has that been a seamless transition for you to go to Goossen from Freddie Roach or did it take a little bit of an adjusting period?BV: It took a little bit of adjusting, but the adjustment has been fast. It's really good working with Joe. It's sad to leave the Wild Card, but with Freddie working with a lot of other great fighters, I think I'm at that point in my career where I need to be with a trainer to define mt style. I think it was a hard move, but it was the right move for me.
BT: Is it a permanant move? Is it not just because of the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight?BV: We'll see. We'll see, nothing's permananent with me as far as the training aspect. For me, right now I have to take a look at what's right for me. I think having a trainer working with me full-time 24/7, at this point in my career, especially for this type of fight is what I need. I think it was a hard move. We sat down with Freddie and talked it over. We agreed that it was the best move. Â
BT: After two substandard performances agianst Omar Nino, by your standards, how important is it for you to capture this title and put on a good performance?BV: It's very important for me. That's why I've been working my but off the past few months, not only to win , but to look spectacular. I'm in a division where there is not much attention as far as fanbase. For me, I not only have to win this fight, but I have to look great doing it. I don't want what happened last time happen this fight, having to go through the judges taking it out of my own hands.Â
BT: Do you have any predictions for your fight with Sosa?BV: I don't like predictions, but I can tell you that it's going to be a great fight. I'm going to be in there being aggressive. It's going to be a lot more aggressive. There's going to be a lot of punches thrown.
BT: Any last words for your fans?BV: Thank you again for all your support. Hopefully everyone will come out on April 14th and watch the fight with me and Sosa.
