Boxingtalkers should not be surprised if IBF junior middleweight champion Verno Phillips first defense comes against undefeated contender "Irish" John Duddy. Duddy, 25-0 (17KO) has never fought as a junior middleweight but he and his team are confident they can make the drop down in weight without a problem. The bout has been in discussion for a couple of weeks now and September 6 has already been mentioned as a possible date. Madison Square Garden and Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, are amongst those in the running to land the fight. Many feel that Duddy's people are making this move in an attempt to capture a world title and hopefully make a fight with Oscar De La Hoya.
