Vergil Ortiz wins in Texas with world-class performance

Vergil Ortiz TKO6 Antonio Orozco... Welterweight Vergil Ortiz tweeted "statement made" about his win over Antonio Orozco in Grand Parairie, Texas on Saturday, and that accurately summed up his performance. Ortiz (14-0) announced himself as one of the most exciting young boxers in the sport by dismantling the durable Orozco in six rounds. Ortiz fought ferociously and floored Orozco three times in round six, causing a referee's stoppage. The first two knockdowns were occassioned by Orozco (28-2) taking a knee to try to recover from the combinationshe was absorbing. Orozco also landed quite a few clean punches, but they were nowhere near as hard as Ortiz's bombs. Orozco's only prior loss was to Carlos Ramirez, who now holds the WBO and WBC junior welterweight championships. Admittedly, that was a weight class lower for Orozco, but the Mexican warrior went the full twekve rounds vs. Ramirez and simply couldn't hang with Ortiz. It will be interesting to see how Ortiz's promoter, Goden Boy, manuevers Ortiz into a title shot with rival Premier Boxing Champions controlling most of the welterweight champions (Errol Spence, Manny Pacquiao, Shawn Porter) save for Terrence Crawford, who is with Top Rank. source: dazn
