Venezuelan update: Canizales returns after close loss in title fight

On Friday, July 19th, Venezuelan Carlos ¨Triple C¨ Cañizales will face Mexico's Iván García in a light flyweight main event. Fighting in his hometown of Caracas, Cañizales, will enter the ring for the second time this year, after losing a world title bid in January by majority decision against Japan’s two-belt champion, Kenshiro Teraji. Cañizales is a former WBA regular title holder with a career mark of 26-2-1. Born in Ixtapaluca, Mexico, García (12-2-1) will return to Venezuela, the nation where he fought to a controversial draw against local man Rodrigo Ramírez at the end of 2023. Garcia won a bout in Mexico in April, by unanimous decision against his compatriot, Pedro Delgado Gaytan. The show will be promoted by Jorge Fernández and Williams Pérez, and will be conducted under the supervision of the Venezuelan National Professional Boxing Commission.
