Venezuelan boxing update

On Saturday, August 31st, two welterweights from Anzoátegui state in Venezuela, will fight in Buenos Aires, Argentina as undefeated Jonathan Hernández is matched against the tough Eddy ‘El Terrible’ Colmenares. The ten-round bout will be the chief support prior to a bout between Aldana Florencia López (10-0) and Verónica Ruíz (5-1). Born in Cantaura, Hernández (12-0), will make his third fight of 2024, after defeating Elías Mauricio Haedo (14-6) by unanimous decision earlier this year, and winning by knockout against Mariano Agustín Sandoval (8-3-0) in May. He aso had a busy 2023, winning all five of his bouts, including a fifth-round knockout victory in April against countryman Kelvinyer Salazar (19-2-1). T

A native of El Tigre, Colmenares (8-1-1), saw little activity in recent years, but will step into the ring for the second time in 2024, after defeating Yeizon Cerezo (0-7) by knockout in the first round in April. Before that, Colmenares' last fight outside of Venezuela dates back to late 2019, when he lost a split decision in Russia to local Igor Adleiba (14-2-3). However, he returned to winning ways in his only fight of 2020, where he won in his home nation against Lesty Coraspe (0-2) by knockout. Colmenares was then inactive for four years. He will try to come back in style, looking for his first win abroad, although he faces a tough opponent.
