Venezuelan Olympian off NY show

Press Release: Wilmer Vasquez, 1-0, the hard-punching heavyweight who represented his native Venezuela in the 2004 Olympic Games, has withdrawn from his scheduled appearance in Long Island, New York on February 16, 2007. The show is being headlined by James Moore, 9-0, a native of Ireland. The show will take place at Plattduetsche Park restaurant in Franklin Square, Long Island, New York. Vasquez, who is promoted by DRL Promotions and mentored by, among others, the legendary Roberto Duran, was forced to return home due to the illness of his mother. “I am sorry that Wilmer is unable to fight, but he is where he should be at a time like this,” said promoter Bob Duffy. “He is very close to his family, and the health of his loved ones is much more important than a boxing match. Everyone involved in the promotion extends their best wishes to Wilmer and his family during this difficult time.” The Plattduetsche restaurant is located at 1122 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, about a  mile east of Belmont Racetrack, phone 516-354-3131.
