The Animal Upsets Powell IV, heading towards the Money
Greg Leon: Congrats on a great victory over previously undefeated Money Powell IV (10-1 6 KOs). Can you give us some thoughts on your performance? Vaughn Alexander: "Thank you. It was a good fight, I would all the first round a feel out round. After the first round I wanted to see what he was going to do, was he going to try to box or just fight his opponent like he normally does. He tried to work the ring a lot and I think he's going to be a good up and coming fighter, they just fought me at the wrong time. Right now I feel like I'm starting to put it all together and it showed."
GL: What do you want this win to lead to?
VA: "I want this win to lead to bigger situations for myself. Now I'm letting my hands go more, I'm picking my shots more, I'm doing a lot of things that I've been working on in the gym that I hadn't been doing a lot of lately. I got a good trainer now (Doveed Linder) and he's helping me bring these things out. I'm just looking to get into bigger and better situations so I can continue to better myself and get into world title contention."
GL: I see you came in at 162 pounds, do you want your next fight to take place at 160 on the button?
VA: "I would love to fight at middleweight. I promise you though G, everytime we want to get a fight at 160 people been turning me down and that's the only reason I've been fighting at 168."
GL: So your preference is 160?
VA: "Absolutely. I would love to campaign directly at 160, but so far I ain't been able to get no fights at 160."
GL: Haters are going to say Money wasn't ready and they threw him in too soon. Do you feel like you need another quality win to silence those people and really force everyone to take you seriously?
VA: "I'm going to say this, I've done had some mishaps since I've been out of prison, and that's to be expected because I had to get a lot of ring rust off, but I know opportunities will present themselves to me and I don't care what nobody got to say... whoever they put in front of me, it's going to be a problem. Now everything is coming together, I'm getting back to what I used to do."
GL: Mike Cameron's done a great job of keeping you active, how do you feel about the job he's done thus far?
VA: "Me and Mike got a good relationship. We talk a lot and we strategize a lot about the fights that can possibly happen for us. Mike is doing a good job, he's keeping us busy and the only thing I"m waiting on is the opportunity."
GL: Do you plan to fight again before the end of the year?
VA: "At least once. I could see myself fighting a couple more times before the end of the year."
GL: (Boxingtalk's) Doveed Linder has been training you and from what I hear you were more active in this fight than some of your recent fights. What kind of difference has he made?
VA: "You and I both know it's important for a trainer to pay attention to every detail of the fighter, that's what he brings to the table. He brings out my natural ability, moving, moving my head, throwing combinations, cutting the ring off. It's not that I didn't already posses these things already, but sometimes you need a good trainer to bring it out of you and this is what he's been helping me do since me and him got together."
GL: CLosing thoughts for the fans.
VA: "I just want to thank everybody that's supporting me and even the haters for motivating me by speaking my name. I'm going to keep working hard and staying ready. I need that action and I'm not going to stop until I get into contention for a world title."
