Valdez vs. Wilson to vie for WBO interim title at 130

The WBO has granted sanction approval for the Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson bout, which is scheduled for Friday, March 29th at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona to be a WBO interim title contest in the 130-pound division. The WBO sanction has the following conditions: (i) the winner of Valdez-Wilson must face the WBO junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete. However, Navarrete is currently booked to fight Denis Berinchyk for the vacant WBO lightweight title on May 18th.2 If Navarrete wins the WBO lightweight title on May 18th, he has up ten days to determine in which weight division he wishes to remain WBO champion. If Navarrete defeats Berinchyk and determines to remain at lightweight, the winner of Valdez-Wilson will be elevated to full champion status and must make a mandatory defense within six months. [Confusingly,] if Navarrete loses to Berynchyk, the WBO Championship Committee reserved its right to determine whether the junior lightweight championship will be declared vacant or not.
