Vabaza-Maca set for Soweto on May 27

Orlando Press Release: Community Hall in Soweto, South Africa will host a Branco Sports Productions show on May 27, 2005. The main event will feature  Gabula "The Tiger " Vabaza, Boxingtalk's #10 junior featherweight and arguably one of the most talented boxers in the country. He is 21-0 and holds a regional title. In the biggest test of Vabaza's career to date, he will trade leather with former OPBF and PABA junior featherweight champion Jess Maca of The Philippines in a slated 10-rounder. The 29-year-old Maca is a ringwise veteran with a record of 43-20-6.  Vabaza, who was suspended for six months last year, has, with the help of his promotional backers BSP, still managed to reamain the busiest boxer in the country and this will be his fourth fight in an eight month period. On the Soweto undercard, bantamweight Siyabonga Nyanga, rated # 2 nationally at 118 pounds, will clash with #3 rated Zolani Mbelekane, with the winner more than likely to get a shot at domestic bantam champion Simphiwe Vetyeka. Also, former Olympian Kgotso Motau (5-0) will be facing Mpumalanga's Oupa Mhlangu (4-4). The card will be screened live on SABC Sport.
