Still no formal date for the heavyweght world championship unification bout between three-belt champion Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury, although the target date remains in February. Some big heavyweight news, perhaps the exact date of Usyk-Fury, or perhaps some news about former champions Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, could be revelaed at a British press conference this week, as Fury's promoter Frank Warren tipped, "We are approaching an announcement-heavy period of time with some big reveals on the cards this week. So keep your eyes peeled because there is much to look forward to in the remainder of this year and early next!"
As the WBC convention kicked off, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman predicted the upcoming Fury-Usyk fight will be one of the greatest boxing matches of all time. He made this comment at the WBC Convention in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and stressed that champion Fury will be ready to meet the challenge despite an awful performance against MMA fighter Francis Ngannou next month. Sulaiman said, "The best man will win. Tyson Fury had a very complicated outing against Otto Wallin before his great knockout over Deontay Wilder. So you cannot judge a fighter’s caliber by one fight. Everything happens, it’s another day in the job and a win is a win. It’s about the moment and we will see who has it at that time. It will be one of the greatest fights in history.”
