Urango-Vilches made an IBF eliminator

Seminole Hard Rock to host April 23rd show

Press Release: Former junior welterweight titlist Juan Urango will face South American Champion Carlos Wilfredo Vilches on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 as ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights returns to the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida. Urango vs Vilches, an IBF title elimination bout, headlines a Hard Rock Live Hollywood, FL bout card presented by Seminole Warriors Boxing.  Doors open at 6:30pm and the first bell rings at 7:30pm.  ESPN2’s Wednesday Night Fights broadcast begins at 9pm ET / 6pm PT. In the co-feature, middleweight “Mean” Joe Greene is wasting no time getting back into the ring after his spectacular showing against Francisco Mora in February, and he will take on an opponent to be announced in a 10 round contest.

Tickets may be purchased at the Hard Rock Live Box Office or TicketMaster.com.

Urango (19-1-1, 15 KOs) is on the road back to a world title after early TKO wins over Nasser Athumani and Marty Robbins.

A native of San Rafael, Argentina, Vilches (52-7-2, 31 KOs) has been one of the toughest competitors in the world at 140 pounds for much of his 11 year pro career.  A fighter who has battled the best, such as Ricky Hatton, Sharmba Mitchell, and Joel Julio, the South American junior welterweight champion feels the time is right for him to finally strap a world title belt around his waist, something that will be within his grasp if he beats Urango on April 23rd.

“Mean” Joe Greene’s is unbeaten in 18 pro fights (with 13 KOs). The southpaw boxer-puncher made a huge statement in Madison Square Garden on February 23rd when he stopped veteran Francisco Mora in ten one-sided rounds.  Looking to elevate to the next level this year, the 22-year old Greene is one of boxing’s brightest young stars.
