Swarming his prey from the bell, Romero (15-0, 13 KOs) quickly trapped Mitchell in a neutral corner, unloading a barrage of leather until the referee halted the action at the 2:33 mark. Romero was a national Golden Gloves champion, winning 23 national amateur titles overall. Mitchell left the ring at 6-2-0, 4 KOs.

 

Joseph Brown W6 Alton Wiggins... Junior middleweight Joseph Brown, 157.4 lbs., who holds dual citizenship between the U.S. and Canada, outpointed southpaw Alton Wiggins, 156.8 lbs., of Modesto, CA, over eight dominant rounds. All three judges tallied 60-54. Trained by his father, Martin, the 19-year-old Brown improved to 8-0-0, 5 KOs. Wiggins is now 3-3-1. Before turning to pro boxing in 2023, Brown excelled in amateur taekwondo, kickboxing and muay thai.

 

Aldo Blancas W4 Ricky Mamone... Aldo Blancas, 140.2 lbs., the 19-year-old younger brother of super middleweight Daniel Blancas, defeated Ricky Mamone, 142 lbs., of Salt Lake City, via four-round unanimous decision. The scorecards read 40-35, and 39-36 (twice). Blancas, of Milwaukee, dropped Mamone, now 0-0-1, in round two with a left hook to the ribs. Trained by his father, Ignacio, and Jose Benavidez Sr., Blancas, 3-0-0, 2 KOs, was a five-time national amateur champion.

 

Benjamin Johnson W6 Jose Gabriel Rodriguez... Benjamin Johnson, 149.4 lbs., a 21-year-old welterweight from Springdale, MD, was taken the distance for the first time, earning a six-round unanimous decision against Jose Gabriel Rodriguez, 150 lbs., of Guayaquil, Ecuador. A twelve-time national amateur champion, Johnson is trained by Lamont Roach Sr. With scores of 60-54 twice, and 59-55, Johnson earned a unanimous decision to improve to 8-0-0, 7 KOs. Rodriguez’s record evened out at 4-4-1, 3 KOs.
