Ugandan heavyweight trying to succeed in Europe

Ugandan-born Dutch heavyweight Willy Kyakonye, 7-0 with 6 KOs, is set to fight on March 30th. At the Sporthal de Willisstee in Wilnis, Netherlands, he will take on Giovanni Auriemma, 2-3-1, born in Italy but also fighting out of the Netherlands. Kyakonye, age 29, turned professional in 2017 with a first-round knockout of undefeated Gino da Fonseca (3-0), and instantly made an impression on the Dutch boxing scene. He has won every fight conclusively, but, despite his underwhelming statistics, Auriemma could easily turn out to be a very tough challenge for him. “El Tigre” Auriemma, age 30, lost his paid debut in 2016, but has since proven quite capable by defeating the likes of 4-0 Kristian Prenga, who is today 15-1, and drawing with 3-0 Perry Reichling in his most recent fight last October. He is obviously the underdog going in, but Auriemma will not be coming to lay down, and will do all he can to upset the favourite.

The Kyakonye vs. Auriemma fight headlines “The Evolution of Boxing”, and will be preceded by six well-matched undercard bouts.
