Tua wins split decision over Salif

By Scott Shaffer

Heavyweight David Tua won a split decision over Cisse Salif on Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena in Hollywood Florida. Tua (44-3-1) was fighting for only the second time in two years. Official scores were 98-92 and 96-94 for Tua, overruling a 96-94 scorecard in Salif's favor. Salif had a seven inch height advantage, but coming into the bout, the conventional wisdom said his chin couldn't withstand Tua's power. On the same show, heavyweight Jameel McCline, who last year was one punch away from the IBF title, lost a very surprising unanimous decision to journeyman Zuri Lawrence. It was the third loss in the last four fights for McCline. source: Associated Press.
