Houston boxing fans witnessed an upset in the lightweight division as Fernando Trejo, brought in as the opponent for rising lightweight contender Jose Armando Santa Cruz, flipped the script by stopping the featured fighter in the tenth round. Both men were bleeding from a clash of heads, and in the ninth, Trejo arguably should have been credited with a knockdown but the referee ruled it a slip.  In the tenth round, Trejo trapped Santa Cruz in a corner and landed a strong combination that convinced the refeee to end the Solo Boxeo main event.  Santa Cruz, whose undefeated record was compiled against tough opposition, had risen to #17 in the Boxingtalk ratings.
