In 2004, undefeated junior middleweight Travis Simms was the WBA regular champion with hopes of fighting then super champion Winky Wright. That never happened and Simms wound up getting stripped of the title by the WBA. Litigation and promotional disputes with Don King ensued, then Simms' lawyer died, and now nearly two years have passed since Simms has had a pro fight. However, Boxingtalk has confirmed that the WBA is prepared to hold a purse bid on September 16, 2006 for Simms to challenge the man now holding his belt, Jose Antonio Rivera. A purse bid might not be necessary if a deal can be reached before then. Full interview to follow with Travis Simms but until then remember where you heard it first. Â
