Travis Simms champions blood drive

WBA junior middleweight champion Travis Simms will host a Red Cross Blood Drive this Saturday at the Fairfield County Blood Donor Center, 596 Westport Ave, Norwalk, Connecticut. The man who brought a world title to Norwalk is giving back to the
community that helped developed his boxing skills. Simms learned to box as a youngster at the John Harris Boxing Club. The blood drive will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Simms is a strong believer in donating blood regularly and hopes that fellow Norwalk residents will follow his lead and join him at the blood drive. "Tremendous" Travis will be on hand to sign autographs and will have giveaways for blood donors. This past January on Showtime, Simms, who has yet to taste defeat as a professional, totally dominated and then stopped Jose Rivera to win back a title that was stripped from him. Simms is scheduled to defend his title against mandatory challenger Joachim Alcine on June 15, 2007. Note to New York City fans: the train ride from New York's Grand Central Station to Norwalk is under an hour long.Â
