Travis Simms: "I'm going to murder" Joachim Alcine

GL: What can we expect to see from you on Showtime against Alcine this Saturday night? "Greg, you're going to see the best of Travis Simms and I can't wait. This dude, he's been disrespectful and quite frankly I don't think he's deserving to fight for a world title. This guy has fought absolutely nobody and he's saying that he doesn't think I'm a great champion. I don't want him to be jocking me, but at the same time show me some respect as the champion of the division. You say you don't think I'm worth being champ and you think you're the champ, but I'm going to show him how we do it and kick his ass. These guys he's been fighting in Canada are nothing like me, he's going to be in a completely different environment, he's not going to hear his hometown crowd cheering for him and he's going to be in with a live dude.

"He's been fighting heavy bags with arms, just dead men with a pulse and he got dropped by three of them so come on dawg. I'm the best pound for pound fighter in the division, possibly in boxing and he's talking like he's going to do something with me? I'm going to murder this dude."

GL: You've been wanting to fight in Connecticut for quite some time. Are you hoping this is the first of many titles defenses in your backyard?

Travis Simms: "I'm glad that we're finally here. Initially Don King was trying to get me over in Europe, but due to some unfortunate circumstances it couldn't happen. I just stayed calm and focused and I'm looking forward to taking care of business in front of my hometown."

GL: Does Alcine go the distance?

TS: "The guy is going to come. He's never lost and this is his first world title fight. He's going to come to take an ass whooping, but I've seen him dropped by lesser guys. I don't think he's going to be able to stand up to my punches and if he does, he's going to take a terrible ass whopping."

GL: Not to look too far ahead, but is a unification with Cory Spinks, who is also promoted by DKP, something you're hoping is one the horizon?

TS: "That's definitely something we would love to entertain. We've expressed that to Don King and we've expressed that to Cory Spinks and his people. Right now we'll see if we can put that together after this fight. I want to see if Floyd Mayweather will give me that opportunity. He's an undefeated world champion, I'm an undefeated world champion so maybe we can do it. If he doesn't want to do it, maybe me and Cory Spinks can unify the titles and make some money. No disrespect to the other champions, but I feel like I'm the best pound for pound in this division and I"m willing to put my title on the line to prove it."

GL: There's been talks of a Mayweather-Hatton fight for November. If Mayweather fights Hatton would the fight between you and Spinks determine the best junior middleweight in the world?

TS: "Absolutely! I would love to have the fight with Spinks. I'm ready, willing and able whenever they are. We could sit down and get that fight moving right after this one. I would love to fight him before the end of the year."

GL: Although you're an undefeated world champion do you feel that the way this business is, you have to be impressive to ensure that you continue to fight on Showtime or another premium cable channel?

TS: "I feel no pressure going into this fight, but at the same time I feel that every time I do come out I have to shine. I have to have the top performance and I don't have no problem doing that. I've been doing that my whole career and I'm just starting to get some notoriety for it. I just want to continue to win my fights so I can make the fights that all the boxing fans want to see."

GL: Are you still comfy making 154?

TS: "Definitely. I've been making this weight since I was 13 years old and at 36 I'm still making the weight with no problem."

GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?

TS: "July 7 I'm takin care of business as I always do. The dude getting a bit disrespectful will lead to me showing him what it's like to get your ass whooped by a world class fighter."
