On the first fight shown on NBC in more than a decade, Ukrainian heavyweight improved to 14-0 when New York's Tor Hamer inexplicably quit on his stool after four rounds in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Hamer was losing the fight, but had not been down or even seriously hurt when he gave up. Hamer made no claim of injury, and simply said "I'm sorry" to his corner before disgracefully quitting. He should consider himself lucky that his purse was not withheld by the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission. If the main event had not been such a competitive fight, Hamer's ill-advised decision to quit could have dissuaded NBC from future done serious harm to the entire sport of boxing. While fighting a talented boxer like Glazkov is not easy, a good-faith effort to win must be given by every boxer, and Hamer did not do so. He may be a nice person, be he should immediately retire and pursue a less demanding career becuase he is not cut out for professional boxing.
