Top Rank wins purse bid for Haney vs. Davis

The WBO announced that Top Rank submitted the winning bid of $8,550,000 million to secure the promotional rights for the proposed WBO welterweight championship bout between champion Devin Haney and mandatory challenger Keyshawn Davis. Top Rank plans to hold the fight on October 3rd at one of the following three locations: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the State Farm Arena in Atlanta or the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. A losing bid was submitted by Teofimo Lopez's Takeover Promotions in the amount of $2,350,000. Takeover's representative protested the result, claiming that Top Rank's envelope was not properly sealed.

Under the WBO's 75/25 purse split, Haney is set to receive $6,412,500, while Davis, a former lightweight champion, will earn $2,137,500. The bout will be contested for Haney's WBO welterweight title, with Top Rank now responsible for promoting the event. Following the purse bid, the WBO posted on Twitter, "congratulations to all parties involved. We look forward to an outstanding world championship event."
