Mayweather, Cotto and Aguiniga updates

PRESS RELEASE: Miguel Cotto's week-long 'New York Adventure' begins Friday night when the undefeated world champion hits the bright lights of New York City. Team Cotto will be coming in from his hometown of Caguas, Puerto Rico, where Cotto has been training for weeks to take on the last man who defeated him -- Olympic gold medalist Muhammad Abdullaev in the first round of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.

"You don't forget a fight like that," Cotto said. "I hit him real hard plenty of times and thought I did enough to win --  but somehow he got his hand raised that night.

"Let's see what happens now, on June 11."

On Saturday, June 4, Cotto will have an open, outdoor workout at the 152nd St. Festival in the Bronx. It all starts at 3 pm and the first 500 who head for ringside will receive a Cotto headband.

The final press conference will be next Thursday, 11 am, at the Garden.

Top Rank's Cotto vs. Abdullaev world title fight is all set for Madison Square Garden on June 11. In the opening bout on HBO, undefeated lightweight sensation Kid Diamond of Las Vegas will take on former world champion Joel Casamayor of Miami in a lightweight eliminator.  The 'Diamond Girl' will be in the ring singing 'Diamonds Are Forever' when Kid Diamond makes his ring walk on fight night.

Hard-punching Irish middleweight John Duddy -- who is 9-0 with 9 KOs -- will be one of the top fighters on the undercard.


JOSE AGUINIGA IN TITLE FIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT ON TELEFUTURA!!!

World-class bantamweight Jose Aguiniga, 27-0, will take on Hugo 'Rambo' Ramirez, 21-3, for the vacant NABA 118-pound title on Friday night at the Performing Arts Center in Oxnard, Calif.  Aguiniga, a hard worker and solid puncher, is boxing in his hometown against Ramirez. This is a huge fight for Aguiniga who is looking for a big win to take a giant step towards a world title fight. Aguiniga vs. Ramirez will be featured on Telefutura.

'Pretty Boy' Update --  At a press lunch today in Los Angeles, 'Pretty Boy' Floyd Mayweather Jr. said he has won the psyche war against Arturo Gatti.

"He's already a beaten man. I feel sorry for him. He will never be on HBO Pay Per View again," Mayweather said. "I train real hard and all of my workouts are open to the public. No one is ever turned away.

"Even Gatti is welcome to come to the gym and watch me work out."

Mayweather is training at the Top Rank gym in Las Vegas.  Gatti is training in Vero Beach, Fla.

Gatti vs. Mayweather 'Thunder and Lightning' is at the sold-out Boardwalk Convention Hall in Atlantic City, NJ on June 25.  Gatti vs. Mayweather will be available on HBO Pay Per View.
