Toney goes with Pony

In the week before heavyweight contender James Toney returned to the ring with a decision win over Rydell Booker, he signed an endorsement agreement with Pony International to wear Pony shoes during his boxing matches.  “Pony has always been synonymous with great champions in heavyweight boxing and we are thrilled to be associated with such a talented athlete and colorful personality as James 'Lights Out' Toney,” says Killick Datta, CEO of Global Brand Marketing, Inc., the majority owner of Pony International. “Just as Toney heralds his return to the ring from injury, Pony looks forward to our return to the boxing spotlight in this bout with Toney and beyond.”  Pony makes two models of boxing shoes, and if Toney is successful in his goal of winning a heavyweight title, he will join Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes as Pony’s third heavyweight champion endorser.  In his first bout in over a year, Toney beat a blubbery Booker by dominant unanimous decision in California on Thursday night.
