The great Azumah Nelson says Ghana is not doing enough to develop its boxers

Ghana's greatest boxer ever, Azumah Nelson, said in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic that Ghana while has many potential champions, but they must be better developed to shine in the sport.  According to the Daily Graphic, Nelson believes that boxing events must reach the entire territory of Ghana. He said, “the network must be widened to organize boxing events throughout the country to look for talent, because we have many potential boxers in Ghana, but the lack of support means that the potential of young people with boxing skills is not being developed.”

Nelson also assured that the most important thing the youngsters must have is discipline, because without it, no matter how much support they have, they will not become champions if they stray from training. “They have to know what they want and focus on it to reach their goals. If you don’t know what you want in life, you’re not going to achieve anything. Hence the need for them to appreciate that boxing is a career that requires self-discipline, regular training, focus and strategy to achieve your goals,” the former world champion told the Daily Graphic.

Nelson, a boxing hall of famer, was a champion in two different divisions and the first time he was crowned he did so against another legend: Wilfredo Gomez. Undoubtedly, his feats are still remembered and support his vision of boxing today.
