The boxing card organized by the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) to raise funds for victims of the Asian tsunami has been postponed to later this year and proceeds of the event will go instead to the flood relief efforts in the South American country. Guyana experienced record rainfalls and severe flooding nearly a month ago that affected more than half of the population. The water level on the land has since receded in some areas while some coastland communities are still flooded with neck-high waters. But while the waters are slowly receding diseases are surfacing and so far 16 persons have died from leptospirosis. Secretary of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Trevor Arno, said the fundraising card will now be held sometime after April.
