Thaxton wins European lightweight crown

Jon Thaxton KO3 Juan C. Diaz Melero... Jon Thaxton is the new European lightweight champion after a third-round knockout against Juan Carlos Diaz Melero. The career best moment, accomplished with a one-punch knockout, came late in Thaxton's career. Thaxton, 33-8, is a 34-year old veteran who went the distance in a losing effort to Ricky Hatton in 2000. Diaz, 36-2, formerly held the EBU 135-pound title but lost it to Yuri Romanov. Thaxton also lost to Romanov on cuts. Romanov then vacated the title earlier this year but doesn't seem to have anything better lined up. source: sportinglife

Herbie Hide TKO3 Aleksejs Kosobokovs... On the same show in Norwick, England, cruiserweight contender Herbie Hide marked a successful return to England after four years of campaigning on the European mainland. Hide, a former WBO heavyweight titlist, knocked Aleksejs Kosobokovs (12-10) down three times in three rounds, before Kosobokovs quit on his stool citing a knee injury. Hide is now 45-4 overall, and 10-0 since droping down to cruiserwieght in 2006. source: sportinglife
