Canadian promoter Yvon Michel issued the sad news that Jeanette Zacarias Zapata, an eighteen year-old Mexican boxer, died of injuries sustained in a boxing match last weekend. “It is with great sadness and torment that we learned, from a representative of her family, that Jeanette Zacarias Zapata passed away this afternoon at 3:45 p.m. The entire team at Groupe Yvon Michel is extremely distressed by this painful announcement." Zapata had lapsed into a coma-- due to blows she suffered in a Montreal boxing match over the weekend. Zapata (2-4) was fighting Canada's Marie Pierre Houle (4-0-1) when she was rocked in round four. She did not come out for round five and soon began convulsing in the ring. Boxingtalk is hoping for a full and speedy recovery. Boxingtalk sends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of Jeanette Zacarias Zapata.
