Team Stevens to file protest over stoppage loss!

Moments ago Chris "Gotti" Lorenzo, manager of previously undefeated super middleweight Curtis "Showtime" Stevens, informed Boxingtalk.com that a formal protest will be filed with the New York State Athletic Commission on Monday morning over the questionable and "premature stoppage" Team Stevens feels they fell victim to at the Manhattan Center last night. "First and foremost, if Curtis was hurt and he was getting hit there wasn't a person in the building who would have wanted the fight stopped more than I would have. He was hurt but he wasn't getting hit and we believe Curtis would have definitely finished and won the fight had he been allowed to continue," stated Lorenzo. Stevens was clearly ahead on all three judges scorecards at the time of the stoppage, and although he is only 21 years old with time on his side, Lorenzo feels the ref's poor judgement was quite damaging to Stevens since there is no question that young undefeated fighters are easier to market and generally more appealing to television networks than up and comers with blemishes on their records. DiBella entertainment is already working on an October rematch. (4:30 PM EST)
