Taylor edges Serrano: thrilling fight; debatable decision

Katie Taylor W10 Amanda Serrano... In a thrilling world championship fight, Amanda Serrano appeared to get the short end of the stick from the judges, as she lost a decision to world junior welterweight champion Katie Taylor by the narrow margin of 95-94 on all three official scorecards. Boxingtalk scored it 96-93 for Serrano. The fight took place in Arlington, Texas, just prior to the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson main event. Fighting out of her left-handed stance, Taylor repeatedly headbutted Serrano, opening up a huge cut over Serrano's right eye. The butts did not appear to be intentional, but Taylor did consistently lead with her head, causing the referee to penalize the champion with a one-point deduction.

Serrano, the world featherweight champion moved up three weight divisions for this fight and appeared to do enough to win the fast-paced ten rounder. Punchstats credited Serrano with a 324-217 advantage in punches landed, a stat that did not escapre Serrano. "I landed 107 more punches, she got a point deducted and I lost 95-94 .To my fans I’m going to always give it everything I have. I’m a ruthless warrior and Katie is my buddy but damn her best attribute is her head. No punching power but a hard ass head lol."

This was the second time that Taylor got a debatable win over Serrano, coming after a 2022 battle in New York City's Madison Square Garden that many thought could hacve gone Serrano's way as well. A third fight certainly seems in order.
