Tarver, Dawson win in Hartford

Antonio Tarver W12 Elvir Muriqi... Former world light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver won a surprisingly close majority decision over lightly regarded Elvir Muriqi in Hartford,Connecticut on Saturday. Tarver, 25-4, had been out of action for a year since ceding his crown to Bernard Hopkins, and against Muriqi, he started slowly, but gradually came on, and succeded in cutting Muriqi with an uppercut in the fifth round. Tarver hurt Muriqi, 34-4, in the eighth and tenth rounds, but the final six minutes were very competitive. Tarver wound up with the decision by tallies of 115-113, 116-112 and 114-114. source: associated press

Chad Dawson TKO6 Jesus Ruiz... WBC light heavyweight champion had a successful homecoming and set up a possible big money fight against Antonio Tarver with a sixth-round stoppage of woefully unqualified Jesus Ruiz. Dawson was fighting in Hartford, his hometown. There were no knockdowns. Ruiz has never beaten a top opponent, and hasnt even had a decent win in four years, so the real scandal here is how he ever got approved for a WBC title fight. source: associated press
