At the Japanese Boxing Commission gala, a ceremony that awards the best of Japanese boxing, two undefeated superstars challenged each other. The ceremony was attended by Naoya Inoue, current world super bantamweight champion. Also in attendance was WBC bantamweight champion Junto Nakatani. [Inoue is a four-division champion, Nakatani a three-division champion]. Inoue was awarded-- for the seventh consecutive year-- accolades as the best Japanese boxer of the year. In his thank you speech, Inoue (who has a fight scheduled for May) challenged Nakatani to a fight next year. “Let’s explode Japanese boxing at the Tokyo Dome next year.”
Together Nakatini rose from his chair accepting the bout by shaking hands with his compatriot. “Let’s do it.”
If it comes to fruition, this would be one of the biggest and most anticipated fights for Japanese and worldwide fans. Both boxers are undefeated. Inoue with 29 fights and 26 KO’s and Nakatini with 30 fights and 23 KO’s.
