A day after appearing with world middleweight champion Jermain Taylor at a New York press conference Tuesday, Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward escaped serious injury in a one-car accident in Detroit. Steward (with Irish middleweight Andy Lee as a passenger) was driving his red Rolls Royce convertible on a Motown expressway late Wednesday afternoon when he blew a tire, lost control, and careened into a retaining barrier. Both Steward and Lee escaped with scratches. Lee (who is scheduled to fight in Dublin on August 25) and IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (who faces Jesse Feliciano on the Fernando Vargas-Ricardo Mayorga card in Los Angeles on September 7) are expected to share training camp digs with Steward and Taylor in the Poconos, where the champ will prepare for his September 29 mandatory title defense in Atlantic City against Kelly Pavlik.
